The script libraries we have are out on our tables. More scripts are being ordered, borrowed, or read online in digital format. Lists are being made and revised. Shows for producing on our stage are being discussed. It's June, the month we are usually reading and making the final plans to announce our new upcoming season.
This season won't look like what we've produced in the past. There may not be an entire season of productions. There may just be a few shows performed when it's safe for everyone involved. We're living in a much different world right now.
We're not sure, as of today, Thursday, June 18, 2020 what we CAN safely and economically produce. Large cast shows are definitely out, for now. Small casts, medium cast shows where actors can use social distancing blocking on stage, and radio plays are being recommended. COVID-19 numbers are high in the RGV right now. We want to be responsible for your health, as well as the health of our volunteer actors and staff.
We have no definitive plans, or dates, to announce for re-opening the building at this time, but please know that we are busy behind the scenes working on ideas and talking to each other on the phone and in virtual meeting formats.
We currently have people writing original scripts and rehearsing at home. We're looking into the possibilities of live streaming, or video recordings for uploading. We are looking at some affordable projects we can do to spruce up around the theatre.
Your gracious donations are certainly appreciated and helping us get through these difficult times. We have had no income from ticket sales for almost four months. We had one rental in early June, prior to the COVID-19 cases reported as starting to go back up again. After that, we decided to remain temporarily closed. We're actively looking for possible grant money. We don't qualify for any of the loan programs, because we have no employees. The possibility of needing to close our doors permanently in the future are real. Donations are still being gratefully accepted.
We hope you understand our hesitation to re-open and will continue offering your support in any way you can. When we are able to safely re-open, we hope you will be ready to purchase tickets and come see a show.
See you at the theatre!
